Combination of two prisms in dispersion compensation mode

Abstract

It is common knowledge that when two identical prisms are placed in reverse positions so that they compensate (cancel) the dispersion and a beam of white light is incident on the face of one of the prisms, the emergent light is white light from the far side of the second prism. However, the present work shows that the emergent light is a parallel beam comprised of different wavelengths, emerging at different physical locations.
