Abstract
Image formation by two lens system separated by a distance d is presented. The equivalent focal length formula as presented by regular text books is studied, especially in the range where the distance between the lenses is greater than the sum of their focal lengths. Though the formula for the effective focal length gives negative values for large values of , the system still produces erect real images. A comparison of theoretically calculated values for image position with experimental data is made. In this work we revisit the formula in order to understand and induct two lens system as part of school/college practical education.
