Refractive index - using adjacent sides

Abstract

Using a glass slab for measuring the refractive index of given glass slab is a standard experiment in high school text books. This paper attempts to use the light transmission through glass slab in a different mode to measure the refractive index. The aim here is for the student to realize that when light is incident on one of the surfaces of the glass slab, there are various different possibilities in terms of reflection and transmission, which are not evident from the standard glass slab experiment.
