The chemical equilibrium between a weak acid and a weak

Abstract

The topic of acid base equilibrium is covered in every General Chemistry textbook. In spite of the attention devoted to the topic, the equilibrium between a weak acid and a weak base is rarely treated. This work introduces a general equilibrium analysis to the weak acid–weak base reaction. The reaction is represented as a sum of component reactions and its equilibrium is assumed buffered against the acid ionization and base hydrolysis. The scope of the model introduced is investigated and its performance is tested by reproducing an experimental titration curve of vinegar by ammonia.
