The Irresistible Rise of Micro- and Small-Scale Practical Chemistry in the United Kingdom Part 1

Abstract
In the United Kingdom (UK), health and safety legislation was applied to schools in 1974. Since then, employers have become increasingly concerned about safety of practical chemistry in schools following prosecutions and civil actions. Using guidance from the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), micro- and small scaling techniques (MaSSTs) have made procedures safer than traditional methods, inherited and adapted from higher education.
