The teacher time crunch – Causes and consequences of curriculum overload in the 1 - 7 Netherlands examined
Maarten Pieters, Emiel de Kleijn and Herman Schalk
Abstract
A few years after the introduction of the new examination programs for the science subjects in upper secondary education, it appears that quite a few ambitions of the renewal projects have been fulfilled. But one ambition has not been so successful: many teachers of biology, physics and chemistry still find the examination programs too full and they cannot cover all attainment targets for the national and school-based exams in the time allocated. What is the problem and what can be done about it? In this brief report we address these questions. A full report of the research described here can be found at reference [2].
