Abstract
The experiment aims to study the GM plateau of a Geiger-Muller counter with background radiation in comparison with radioactive 133Ba source. Applying least square fit to the obtained data, the percentage slope is determined to study the characteristics of the GM plateau. The percentage slopes of both using just background radiation and Ba are compared. By focusing on background radiation, this experiment provides a method to study the GM counter without radioactive sources.
